SLSAT is an exemplar model that would embed the addressing of low income student issues at the core of the comprehensive pilot model and when it is scaled. A strong diverse student leadership group led by SLSAT is essential to collaborate effectively with SCP alums to address various low income, underserved, first-generation, pathway, and pipeline issues. Established during the fall 2025 Start-up Phase of this project at The University in collaboration with SPCs, SPPS member leaders representing national diversity student organizations (AISES, NSBE, SHPE, SWE) would establish the SLSAT. Local professional chapter member representation, especially with The University alums, of their respective national diversity organizations would be established. SLSAT would have a lead point of contact and representation on the SPPC, and works with each SCP and its alumni chapter along with the local professional chapter of each national diversity organization.
During the spring of 2025, the SLSAT would begin coordinating various coaching and mentoring activities with students at partner community colleges. Over the 2025-2026 Academic Year, the SLSAT would encourage high potential students to apply for the Transfers Scholars Program (TSP). Finalists would attend the Scholars’ Day event in early February 2026. Full scholarships would be awarded and all finalists could interview with SCPs for summer internships.
